چکیده
Background. The incidence of CM-I is estimated to be 1/1,000 births. In rare cases, complicated by associations with other malformations the craniocervical junction, including mainly Basilar invagination (BI). Chiari malformation (CM) characterized a congenital posterior cranial fossa cerebellar tonsils herniation through foramen magnum, probably due underdevelopment bony skeleton (exo-occipital and supraoccipital bones). CM may variety malformations, platybasia, basilar occipitalization, although syringomyelia (SM) most commonly observed Case Report. A girl, 14 years old came chief complaint headache, which exacerbated whenever patient coughed or sneezed. also complained about neck pain tingling sensation in her hand. history vomiting seizure has not been found. muscle weakness was On physical examination, GCS score 15 on admission, normal tone reflexes. sensory deficit, level below C4. underwent CT Scan MRI whole spine, 1 platybasia were diagnosed. decompression, postoperatively symptoms deficit gradually improved. Discussion. As an association this syndrome, there as shown flat basioccipt (platybasia) upward odontoid projection. hydrocephalus [3]. Virchow coined term ‘platybasia’ describe abnormal flattening skull base, defect he attributed bone development. addition base skull, displacement (impression) condylar portions occipital bone, caused infolding, impression reduction fossa, consequent protrusion upper cervical spine into anterior brainstem, neurological signs. symptomatology presented CM-1 patients diverse, its severity does correlate degree TH, some asymptomatic cases presenting prominent TH. onset generally develops gradually, however, trauma, coughing/sneezing pregnancy can precipitate event. common treatment for these surgical PCF decompression (alone duraplasty), tonsillectomy, laminectomy, suboccipital cranioplasty are applied. goal procedures decompress magnum increase subarachnoid space order avoid impaction tonsils, reestablish CSF flow reverse Conclusion. This diagnosed suggested literature, done improved clinically

Chiari malformation
Chiari malformation describes a group of structural defects of the cerebellum, characterized by brain tissue protruding into the spinal canal. Chiari malformations are often associated with myelomeningocele, hydrocephalus, syringomyelia, and tethered cord syndrome. Although studies of etiology are few, an increasing number of specific genetic syndromes are found to be associated with Chiari mal...
متن کاملChiari malformation associated with craniosynostosis.
OBJECT Chiari malformation (CM) Type I is frequently associated with craniosynostosis. Optimal management of CM in patients with craniosynostosis is not well-established. The goal of this study was to report on a series of pediatric patients with both craniosynostosis and CM and discuss their management. METHODS The authors searched the medical records of 383 consecutive patients treated for ...

Single case reports exist in the medical literature of patients with tonsillar ectopia, i.e., the Chiari I malformation and neurofibromatosis type 1. However, large series of patients with either of these entities have not been examined for the presence of both defects. We have retrospectively examined two large groups of pediatric patients: Group I, with the primary diagnosis of Chiari I malfo...

However, symptomatic cluster-like headaches (CLH) have been reported in association with various disorders such as aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, cervical trauma, medullary infarcts, inflammatory/infectious ...
